Shakespeare Star Trek in the Park

That's right, kiddies, an acting troupe (Atomic Arts) is performing Star Trek episodes in the park. Yep, a live show. Here are a couple of photos from last year's performance of "Amok Time":

Wonder if they played the "Star Trek Fightin' Song" during this performance? That would've been very cool.

Here's what Atomic Arts has to say about itself:
The first show was the first annual installment of TREK IN THE PARK, a live adaptation of a classic STAR TREK episode performed in a park setting. The chosen episode, “Amok Time” pit Kirk (Adam) and Spock (Jesse Graff) in a battle to the death during a bizarre mating ritual on Spock’s home world of Vulcan. The show was free to the public, family friendly and encouraged Portlanders to explore their parks as well as the alternative theatre that was possible in their city. The show opened to rave reviews by city newspapers and online sources. Attendance for the performances reached over 1000 people by the end of the 3-weekend run. People were sitting behind the actors just to see the show!
If you're near Portland, Oregon, go and see this year's play, "Space Seed."

***Update***

Looks like Boing Boing mentioned this today, too (I was just over there), but I've seen references to it all over the web.

***Further Update***

I told Episiarch about it. I hope he goes, because I want to hear about it. Not that Seattle is exactly close to Portland.

Excellent. There's a summer Trek movie series in DC, too.
